Physical or inorganic sunscreen for the face

Inorganic, also known as physical or thirdly mineral sunscreens do not absorb into the skin and are often richer in texture because of this. They may also be better suited for sensitive skin than chemical sunscreens.

Physical or inorganic sunscreen scatters some of the UV radiation away from the skin (about 5-10%) in addition to absorbing harmful UV rays into the formula itself, just like chemical sunscreens. But unlike chemical sunscreens, physical sunscreens do not absorb into the skin, which is why they often have a richer texture.

The persistent misconception that physical sunscreens work solely by reflecting UV radiation stems from a mistaken conclusion from the 1970s, which has since been disproven multiple times. The most common minerals in physical sunscreens are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which primarily work similarly to organic (chemical) sunscreens; the electrons in these minerals absorb UV radiation and convert it into a harmless form on the skin.

Physical Also known as inorganic sunscreen or mineral sunscreen, these contain minerals such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which can be found in ingredient lists under names like Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide. Physical sunscreens scatter some UV radiation away from the skin (about 5%) in addition to absorbing harmful UV rays into the formula itself, like chemical sunscreens. But unlike chemical sunscreens, physical sunscreens do not absorb into the skin and may therefore have a richer texture. For those with sensitive skin and babies, physical sunscreen can be a better option than chemical sunscreen.

Sunscreen with nano filter

Some physical sunscreens are labeled as non-nano filter or nano-filter. Nano-sized mineral particles are used in sunscreens to reduce the white cast left on the skin (white cast). However, the smaller the particle, the more easily it can also be absorbed into the skin. Non-nano filter means that the product does not contain nano-sized particles, so in principle, the minerals do not penetrate the skin.

This concern originates from the potential harmful effects of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide nanoparticles, especially when combined with UV radiation. However, so far studies have shown that these nanoparticles do not penetrate deeply into the skin, only reaching the very top dead layer of the skin.
